How do I apply for an IRD number?
Your IRD number identifies you for all the tax related events in your life. You use an IRD number when opening a bank account or earning income from a job.
You can apply for an IRD number online here.
You will need:
- Your passport
- Your INZ application number (from your visa approval email/letter)
- Your tax identification number from your home country (if you have one)
- A New Zealand bank account or CDD form (IR997)
You should receive your IRD number by email or SMS within two working days.
