How do I get an AT HOP card?

An AT HOP card is a reusable prepay smart card for travel on trains, ferries and buses around Auckland. You cannot pay cash on public transport in the city.

Bus, train and ferry timetables are available on the Auckland Transport website: https://at.govt.nz/

If you are an OPAIC student, you will get a Tertiary sticker on your Student Card. Use this sticker to apply for a Tertiary Concession (discount on public transport fees).

5 steps to get a tertiary concession:

Step 1: Buy an AT HOP card ($10). You can buy your AT HOP card online or from a number of shops in the CBD. The nearest is the Civic Convenience Store at Shop 11, 10 Wellesley Street West. Find more retailers in central Auckland here.

Step 2: Register your AT HOP card online.

Step 3: Start your concession application online.

Step 4: Take your AT HOP card, student ID card and tertiary sticker to an AT Customer Service Centre to load your concession onto your card. (The nearest one is at Britomart.)
